The cutoff matters because women’s T20I records have changed quickly. ICC previously identified Sophie Devine’s 18-ball fifty as the record; its 2026 report says Fatima reached 50 in 15 balls.

Why is Airee’s nine-ball record so difficult to beat?

A nine-ball fifty requires a batter to score at least 50 from a tiny number of legal deliveries, usually through a sequence of sixes and fours.

Airee scored 52 not out from 10 balls in the same innings, and the ICC reported that he reached his fifty from nine deliveries. Extras do not count as balls faced by the batter, so the official scorecard is the controlling evidence.

How are fastest T20I fifty records counted?

The record is the fewest balls a batter faces before reaching 50 in a recognised T20I innings.

The method has four boundaries:

1. Count balls faced, not elapsed seconds or team score.
2. Use the scorecard’s batter-ball count; wides and no-balls are not legal balls faced in the usual batting calculation.
3. Include only matches with official T20I status.
4. Separate men’s and women’s records, then show ties at the same ball count.
