Most Centuries in Cricket History: International Records
On this page6
Sachin Tendulkar holds the international record with 100 centuries: 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs. The total is an international record, not a count of every domestic or franchise hundred, and the format split matters whenever another batter is compared with him.
Who has the most international centuries?
Sachin Tendulkar is the only men’s international batter to reach 100 centuries in the ICC’s career summary.
| Rank | Batter | International centuries | Test | ODI | T20I |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sachin Tendulkar, India | 100 | 51 | 49 | 0 |
| 2 | Virat Kohli, India | active total | — | — | — |
| 3 | Ricky Ponting, Australia | 71 | 41 | 30 | 0 |
The second row is intentionally marked active rather than assigned a stale number. A live player can change the table, and the source record should be checked on the editorial review date before a numerical ranking is published.
Who has the most Test centuries?
Sachin Tendulkar leads the men’s Test century list with 51.
Test centuries are innings of at least 100 in the five-day format. A double century remains one century for this record, although it also receives its own double-century classification.
Who has the most ODI centuries?
Sachin Tendulkar finished with 49 ODI centuries, a record built across 463 matches.
ODI century records should stay separate from T20I and Test records because the over limit, innings length and scoring environment differ. The ICC and ESPNcricinfo tables provide the format-specific scope used here.
What counts as a century in cricket?
A century is one batter’s score of at least 100 runs in one official innings.
The innings must appear in a recognised scorecard. A score of 99 not out is not a century, and a team total above 100 does not create a century for an individual batter.
For related batting records, see most runs in ODI cricket, most runs in a Test series and highest individual score in Test cricket.
Why are international and domestic century lists different?
International lists cover recognised Tests, ODIs and T20Is; domestic lists cover competitions such as first-class cricket, List A and franchise leagues.
Adding them together would mix different standards of opposition, match rules and statistical coverage. A complete record page should name the competition, format and cutoff instead of using “cricket history” as though it were one database.
Can the record change?
Yes. Active batters can add centuries, and a corrected scorecard can change a historical total.
SportsMuntra will review this page quarterly and after major international tournaments. The verification date moves after a source check; the visible modification date changes only when the table or explanation receives a substantive editorial update.
Frequently asked questions

Who has the most Test centuries?+
Sachin Tendulkar leads the men's Test century list with 51.

No. Domestic, franchise, first-class and List A hundreds are separate records from international centuries.

No. One innings of 200 is one century and one double century. Career century totals count innings reaching at least 100, not each block of 100 runs.
Why does the cutoff date matter?+
Current players can add hundreds, so every record list should state the date checked and the formats included.
