Pakistan vs Afghanistan Cricket: Results & Head-to-Head

Data checked 28 August 2026

There is no confirmed next Pakistan vs Afghanistan senior men’s match as of 28 August 2026. Both countries have future tournament routes, but neither the Asian Games draw nor the 2027 World Cup schedule currently assigns them to each other. A possible meeting is not a fixture.

Pakistan won the latest match by 75 runs in the Sharjah tri-series final on 7 September 2025. Afghanistan had won their previous league meeting by 18 runs, so the final was not a repeat of a one-sided group stage.

The Pakistan cricket team schedule and Afghanistan cricket schedule list each side’s wider confirmed calendar. This permanent page stays focused on their shared official record.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan head-to-head record

Pakistan lead both formats the teams have played. They have never met in a Test.

Record cutoffs: ODIs through 23 October 2023 and T20Is through 7 September 2025. These are recognized men’s international records. Warm-ups, A-team matches and under-19 cricket are excluded.

The ten T20Is include the 2023 Asian Games semifinal in Hangzhou. That match retained T20I status even though Pakistan selected a Shaheens-led squad. It belongs in the official opponent total, but it does not belong in the permanent senior-team schedule feed.

Latest Pakistan vs Afghanistan result

Pakistan defended 141 for 8 and dismissed Afghanistan for 66 in the 2025 UAE tri-series final. Mohammad Nawaz took 5 for 19, including a hat-trick, as Pakistan won by 75 runs.

The result gave Pakistan two wins from three meetings with Afghanistan in the tournament. It also moved the official T20I record to 6-4 in Pakistan’s favour.

The 2025 Sharjah tri-series split before the final

All three meetings were played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium at 7 p.m. local time.

DateStageResult
29 August 2025LeaguePakistan won by 39 runs
2 September 2025LeagueAfghanistan won by 18 runs
7 September 2025FinalPakistan won by 75 runs

Pakistan made 182 for 7 and bowled Afghanistan out for 143 in the opener. Afghanistan then defended 169 for 5 in the return league match. In the final, a lower total proved enough because Afghanistan was dismissed for 66.

That sequence matters when reading the latest margin. The 75-run final did not erase Afghanistan’s league win; all three results remain in the record.

ODI record: Afghanistan’s first win came at the World Cup

Pakistan won the first seven ODIs, including a 3-0 series sweep in Sri Lanka in August 2023. The second match of that series was the closest: Pakistan chased 301 and won by one wicket with one ball left.

Afghanistan ended the streak at the 2023 World Cup in Chennai. Pakistan made 282 for 7; Afghanistan reached 286 for 2 with an over remaining, winning by eight wickets. It remains Afghanistan’s only ODI victory in the matchup, leaving Pakistan 7-1 ahead.

The Cricket World Cup winners history keeps the tournament’s champions and finals separate from this head-to-head record. A group-stage win is part of the rivalry, not a world title.

T20I record: Afghanistan won the first bilateral series

Afghanistan’s first international win over Pakistan came in Sharjah on 24 March 2023, by six wickets. A seven-wicket win two days later secured Afghanistan’s first series victory over Pakistan in any format. Pakistan won the third T20I by 66 runs, so the series finished 2-1.

Pakistan still lead the full T20I record 6-4. Their wins include the 2021 T20 World Cup meeting, the one-wicket 2022 Asia Cup finish and two of the three 2025 tri-series matches. The T20 World Cup winners list records tournament titles separately from those head-to-head results.

Why the Hangzhou semifinal counts

Afghanistan beat Pakistan by four wickets in the Asian Games semifinal on 6 October 2023. Pakistan’s side was commonly called Pakistan Shaheens because it used an alternative squad, but the competition carried T20I status and the result appears in Pakistan’s recognized opponent record.

This page therefore counts the match in the 10-game T20I total. SportsMuntra’s schedule pages use a narrower editorial scope: they do not mix development-pathway events into the senior national calendar. Both choices are stated instead of hiding the difference.

World Cup and Asia Cup meetings

Pakistan and Afghanistan have met in both global and regional tournaments:

  • 2018 Asia Cup, ODI: Pakistan won by three wickets in Abu Dhabi.
  • 2019 ODI World Cup: Pakistan won by three wickets at Headingley.
  • 2021 T20 World Cup: Pakistan won by five wickets in Dubai.
  • 2022 T20 Asia Cup: Pakistan won by one wicket after Naseem Shah hit the first two balls of the final over for six.
  • 2023 ODI World Cup: Afghanistan won by eight wickets in Chennai.

The Asia Cup winners list gives the edition-level champions and runners-up. Neither country’s head-to-head win count substitutes for a tournament title.

  • 2012, Sharjah: Pakistan won the first official meeting by seven wickets.
  • 2018 and 2019: Pakistan won close Asia Cup and World Cup ODIs by three wickets.
  • 2022, Sharjah: two final-over sixes carried Pakistan to a one-wicket Asia Cup win.
  • March 2023: Afghanistan won the first two T20Is and its first series against Pakistan.
  • August 2023: Pakistan swept the three ODIs 3-0, including a one-wicket finish.
  • October 2023: Afghanistan won the Hangzhou T20I and then recorded its first ODI win over Pakistan at the World Cup.
  • September 2025: Pakistan beat Afghanistan in the Sharjah tri-series final after the teams had split their league meetings.

This is a chronology, not a ranking of the most important matches. It stays focused on cricket and does not turn political hostility or abusive social-media debate into editorial copy.

How this permanent page stays current

The URL remains /pakistan-vs-afghanistan/. A match enters the upcoming module only when the PCB, ACB, ICC, ACC or responsible event organizer confirms the exact teams and date. Qualification, an FTP window or a possible knockout path is not enough.

After a match, the same controlled record moves into Recent results once the official outcome is checked. ODI and T20I totals update separately with visible cutoffs. If a future alternative squad plays a match with international status, the official record and the schedule-page scope will both be stated.

Aliases such as PAK vs AFG, AFG vs PAK and Afghanistan vs Pakistan consolidate here. Future previews, legal viewing guides and recaps can attach to the same entity and appear automatically in its related feed. Women’s, under-19 and A-team meetings remain separate.
