T20 World Cup Winners List 2007 to 2026: Every Champion

India are the reigning men’s T20 World Cup champions, having beaten New Zealand by 96 runs in Ahmedabad on 8 March 2026 for a record third title. Ten editions have been played since the first in South Africa in 2007. England and West Indies have two titles each; Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have one apiece. In the women’s competition Australia have won seven of ten, including the 2026 final at Lord’s.

Which team has won the most T20 World Cups?

India, with three. Their 2026 win in front of a home crowd gave them titles in 2007, 2024 and 2026 and made them the first men’s side to successfully defend the trophy. It also made them the first host nation to win it, a gap that had lasted nine editions.

England and West Indies sit on two each. West Indies won in 2012 and 2016, the only side to have converted every final it reached. England won in 2010 and 2022. Australia, despite dominating fifty-over cricket for decades, have a single T20 World Cup, won in the UAE in 2021 after beating Pakistan in the semi-final. Pakistan and West Indies have never met in a men’s T20 World Cup final. Their permanent head-to-head hub records Pakistan’s 17-4 lead in completed T20I wins and keeps three no-results visible instead of using the stale 21-match total found on older pages.

How this T20 World Cup list is compiled

This is a complete tournament chronology rather than a subjective ranking. Every completed ICC men’s final from 2007 through 2026 appears once in year order, using the official winner, runner-up, venue, margin and player-of-the-tournament record. Editions not staged are not treated as missing winners. Women’s champions are kept in a separate table so the two competitions are not silently combined.

Two finals have been won by fewer than ten runs, in 2007 and 2024, and both went India’s way. The 2026 final broke the pattern entirely and produced the largest margin in the tournament’s history.

Pakistan and South Africa have both reached a men’s final, but not against each other. Their permanent head-to-head hub therefore keeps bilateral T20I results separate from this tournament winners list.

Pakistan’s 2009 title came against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka hub places that final beside their other T20I meetings without mixing it into the Test or ODI record. Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan was player of the tournament in 2009 after scoring 317 runs. West Indies are the only side with a perfect record in finals, winning both they have reached. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each lost two.

The 2026 T20 World Cup: India’s record-breaking home win

India co-hosted with Sri Lanka and finished the job in Ahmedabad. Their 255 for 5 in the final was the highest total ever made in a T20 World Cup final and the highest in any T20 international knockout match. Sanju Samson’s 89 was the highest individual score in a final, and he took the player of the tournament award with 321 runs from five innings at an average of 80.25.

The edition rewrote several records beyond the final. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan finished as leading run-scorer with 383 and shared the record 176-run T20 World Cup partnership with Fakhar Zaman. New Zealand’s Finn Allen made an unbeaten 100 from 33 balls, the fastest century in the tournament’s history. Samson’s 24 sixes were the most struck in one edition. Women’s T20 World Cup winners

Australia have won seven of the ten Women’s T20 World Cups, including the most recent in July 2026. England took the inaugural title on home soil in 2009, West Indies won in India in 2016, and New Zealand broke Australia’s run in the UAE in 2024. The next six-team ICC women’s T20 event is the Women’s Champions Trophy in February 2027, which has its own qualification rule and competition history. The New Zealand Women’s schedule retains the former champions’ five 2026 group results, the Ireland Women’s schedule preserves Ireland’s first win in the tournament, and the Sri Lanka Women’s schedule moves from that event into its Asia Cup title defence.

The 2026 final was played at Lord’s on 5 July. England made 150 for 4 and Australia chased it in 17.1 overs, Beth Mooney making 64 from 49 balls. Mooney took both the player of the match and player of the tournament awards, the first player to win both in the same edition twice. Which teams have never won a T20 World Cup?

New Zealand and South Africa are the notable absentees. New Zealand have lost two men’s finals, to Australia in 2021 and India in 2026, and reached the semi-finals repeatedly in between. South Africa lost the 2024 final in Barbados by seven runs after needing 30 from 30 balls with six wickets standing.

Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Netherlands and the associate nations have all reached the group or Super Eight stage without making a final. Afghanistan’s run to the 2024 semi-finals is the deepest by a side outside the traditional Test nations.

When is the next T20 World Cup?

The eleventh men’s edition runs from 21 October to 19 November 2028, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. It is the first time New Zealand has hosted, with matches at the MCG, the SCG, Adelaide Oval, Optus Stadium, Eden Park, Sky Stadium and Hagley Oval. Twenty teams will contest 55 matches, and India go in as defending champions.
