Pakistan vs New Zealand Cricket: Results & Head-to-Head

Data checked 28 August 2026

There is no confirmed next match between Pakistan and New Zealand’s senior men’s teams as of 28 August 2026. Future Tours Programme summaries point to a possible two-Test window in Pakistan in 2027, but the PCB and New Zealand Cricket have not published exact dates and venues. It is not listed as a fixture yet.

The latest meeting was the teams’ 50th T20 International, at the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup in Colombo on 21 February. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat, but persistent rain arrived before play. The match was abandoned without a ball bowled and each team received one point.

For each side’s complete confirmed calendar, use the Pakistan cricket team schedule and New Zealand cricket team schedule. The Pakistan team hub keeps captains, squads and broader team records separate from this shared rivalry page.

Pakistan vs New Zealand head-to-head record

Pakistan lead all three senior men’s international records, but the ODI and T20I margins are narrow. The cutoffs differ because the teams have not played a Test since January 2023 or an ODI since April 2025, while their latest T20I produced no result in February 2026.

FormatMatchesPakistan winsNew Zealand winsDraw, tie or no-result

T20Is5024233 no-results

Record cutoffs: Tests through the Karachi match ending 6 January 2023; ODIs through 5 April 2025; T20Is through 21 February 2026. The table covers senior men’s internationals only. It excludes women’s cricket, A teams, age-group cricket and unofficial matches.

Several current pages still report 49 T20Is and call the March 2025 match in Wellington the latest meeting. Those totals omit the 2026 World Cup no-result. The official sequence is 50 T20Is, with Pakistan ahead 24-23 and three no-results.

Latest Pakistan vs New Zealand result

The 2026 T20 World Cup Super Eight match at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium was abandoned after the toss. No innings began, so it is a no-result rather than a win, loss or completed scoreless match.

The point mattered in a tight Super Eight group. Pakistan and New Zealand later finished level on three points, with New Zealand advancing on net run rate. That tournament outcome does not turn the abandoned head-to-head meeting into a New Zealand victory.

Test record and the January 2023 finish

Pakistan lead 25-14 across 62 Tests, with 23 draws. The first Test was at Karachi from 13 to 17 October 1955. Pakistan won by an innings and one run, beginning an early advantage that still shapes the all-time total.

The latest Test was also in Karachi, from 2 to 6 January 2023. It ended in a dramatic draw after Sarfaraz Ahmed made 118. New Zealand finished 15 runs short of victory and Pakistan had one wicket left when bad light ended play. The two-match series finished 0-0.

The long record has changed direction over time. Pakistan built most of its lead before the mid-2010s, while New Zealand won seven of the eight Tests between November 2014 and January 2021. That recent run should not be presented as the overall record, and the overall record should not be mistaken for current form.

The guide to what a Test match is explains two innings, five-day play and draws. Any confirmed 2027 Pakistan-New Zealand Tests will also feed the current World Test Championship hub if they fall inside the active cycle.

ODI record and New Zealand’s six wins in 2025

Pakistan lead the ODI record 61 wins to 57 from 122 matches. One game was tied and three ended without a result. The first ODI, at Christchurch on 11 February 1973, was also New Zealand’s first match in the format. New Zealand won the 40-over contest by 22 runs.

New Zealand won all six ODIs between the teams in 2025, but they belonged to three different competitions:

  • two Pakistan-hosted tri-series meetings on 8 and 14 February
  • the Champions Trophy opener in Karachi on 19 February
  • three bilateral ODIs in New Zealand on 29 March, 2 April and 5 April

The bilateral margins were 73 runs, 84 runs and 43 runs. That 3-0 sweep completed a difficult tour for Pakistan, but it did not erase Pakistan’s four-win all-time ODI lead.

The Champions Trophy winners history keeps the 2025 tournament outcome separate from the bilateral record, while the ODI World Cup winners list covers the tournaments in which Pakistan and New Zealand met in major knockout matches.

T20I record and the 2025 bilateral series

Pakistan lead the T20I record 24 wins to 23, with three no-results. Their first T20I meeting was the 2007 World Twenty20 semi-final in Cape Town, which Pakistan won by six wickets.

New Zealand won the five-match home series in March 2025 by 4-1. Pakistan’s win came at Eden Park, where Hasan Nawaz made 105 not out and Pakistan chased 205 in 16 overs for the loss of one wicket. New Zealand won the other four matches, including a 115-run victory at Bay Oval and an eight-wicket win in Wellington to close the series.

Those results left Pakistan narrowly ahead overall. The abandoned 2026 World Cup meeting added a match and a no-result without changing either team’s win count.

Men’s T20 World Cup head-to-head

Pakistan and New Zealand have been paired eight times at the men’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan have five wins, New Zealand two and the 2026 match produced no result.

The URL remains /pakistan-vs-new-zealand/. A new match appears only after the PCB, New Zealand Cricket, ICC or another responsible organizer confirms its date and opponent. Completed matches move into Recent results from controlled records, and the format table advances only after an official result or no-result.
